Old Ceiling Light fixture..new bulbs

I haven't posted lately because I moved.    I'm getting settled and will be updating the blog more frequently.

Now I'm fixing up the house.  The problem was the light fixture over the dining room table.  It had one broken globe and the globes that were there wouldn't fit over the new "energy efficient" bulbs.

Mark Lipinski posts creative ideas on his facebook wall.  He suggested using Ball jars as globes.  We had a case of jars in the basement... a free solution.  After struggling to drill holes in the top of the jar lids, we had a winning solution.

I like the industrial, moden look.  Now onto the next project.

New York Row by Row Quilt Shop Hop

I started the New York State Row by Row quilt Shop hop!  I visited both locations of Pieceful Quilting on Long Island... On Wednesday I travel across the state to visit my parents in Allegany County and to see the Great Wellsville Balloon Rally.  Let's see how many more shops I can hit!

Stop #1 - Pieceful Quilting in East Northport

Stop #2 - Pieceful Quilting in Riverhead

Angela Veck, the owner of the shops joined me in the picture!  Now I have to start sewing.

You can join in the fun by checking out the ROW by ROW facebook page.

Sunbonnet Sue or Holly Hobbie?

Occasionally I get an email asking for information on a pattern.  This was an interesting one:

Hi Kim - I just discovered your website and wondered if you might have any information on the following pattern? I have not be able to locate this pattern anywhere.

Several of these blocks were found in my mother-in-laws garage after she passed away several years ago. We thought they might be Holly Hobbie as they were intended for her granddaughter Holly. She looks more like Sue to me. Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time.

many thanks-
Laura

It did take me a while to find it, but this is a pattern that was designed by the famous Ginny Beyer.  Here is a copy of the 1975 article in Quilter's Newsletter Magazine:

This pattern was printed at the height of the Holly Hobbie craze, so the Sunbonnet Sue does look similar to Holly.   I love it when I can match a vintage block up with an pattern.  Even the embroidery flowers match in this one.  You have to love the 1970s vintage calico fabric too!
